It's looking pretty good. I think it is a real improvement over the old one even though it still is under construction.

The Cincinnati Enquirer will be doing a story on the Newtown PD's new website soon. It will be in the Hometown section that comes out on Thursdays and Saturdays within the next few days.

The tip line thing is pretty cool. I wonder how many people have used it to report oversized election signs?

Village police launch interactive website
Rachel Richardson | The Enquirer
Newtown residents can now learn about breaking crime alerts, make anonymous tips and get feedback from police officials – all at the click of a mouse button.
The Newtown police department recently launched its renovated website, www.villageofnewtown.com/npd , which offers village residents interactivity beyond the click of a link.
The site, designed by part-time Police Officer Kent Orso, also allows residents to post and discuss safety-related issues in an online message board and learn about village officers.
“Technology is what is driving everything now,” said police Chief Thomas Synan, Jr. “Our goal is to be very interactive with the community and we hope to do that with the website.”
Orso, a self-described “tech geek” who also works in information systems, said he designed the site to reflect the departments motto of “Strength with Integrity.” He hopes the site will encourage residents to utilize police services.
“In the past, a lot of police work was reactive in nature; we’re trying to be more proactive” said Orso. “We care about the village and the residents and we care about communication.”
“We’re trying to say ‘We’re not just at the end of the phone. We want to hear your concerns,’” added Orso. “We’re opening up the lines of communication.”
For village resident David Lockaby, who runs a community website at www.newtownvoice.com , the site’s expanded interactivity is a welcome addition. He especially likes breaking crime alerts that notify residents of criminal activity.
“Their new site is great,” said Lockaby. “It’s cutting edge. Communication can only help.”
Plans are in the works to make the site even more robust, said Orso. Additional sections will include information on communication officers, departmental trainings and awards and surrounding counties.
Tips and advice from the village’s Child Abduction Response Team will also be posted, he said.
“It’s a way for us to get out to the residents and business community in Newtown for them to see how their money is being spent and how we’re trying to keep community safe,” said Synan. “We want to get people involved and this a way for the residents to connect.”
And the best part – “It didn’t cost taxpayers anything,” said Synan. “[Orso] did a great job.”

Once again our exemplery police department has made this village very proud. I commend Chief Synan for empowering Police Officer Orso for the creation of such an interactive website.
