NEWTOWN - Almost everyone who addressed Newtown Village Council on Tuesday night voiced a clear message: They like living in Newtown, but they don't want to pay more income tax.
Council is considering repealing the village's 1 percent tax credit, which allows residents who pay at least a 1 percent income tax to communities where they work to avoid paying Newtown any income tax.

Two Newtown Officers receive promotions

NEWTOWN - Officers Shawn McBreen and Jim Vontz recently moved up in rank at the Newtown Police Department.
McBreen was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant, and Vontz was promoted from patrolman to sergeant.
Vontz, a former soldier who served in the first Gulf War, has been with the Newtown police for six years and said law enforcement was his calling.
